Rio Corubal
It is a pristine river that flows from the remote mountains of Guinea Conakry, to empty in the Atlantic Ocean; it travels through gorges and jungle and it is joined by some misterious tributaries; it is still partly unexplored by the fishing point of view but the upper part flowing in Guinea Bissau has been fished for several years with good experience by our local contacts.
Main target is the Nile Perch that here doesn't reach giant proportions even if specimen over 60 kilos have been catched by local tribe fishermen; what they lack in size is widely compensate by the huge numbers that are present in the right moments and the experience of fishing in a pristine nature surroundings, where monkey, eagles, crocs and even hippos roam by the river.
Other fishes are west african tiferfish, the acrobatic african pike, tilapias, tetras and some occasional strange fish.

Accomodation
It is a destination tailored to the adventurous angler, with very basic but confortable camp that can be moved every day according to the decided itinerary and fishing conditions. Single tents with sleeping bags, and the bathroom just flows in front of you ... a full immersion in nature by every meaning. Boats are small skiffs for two persons or a two persons and a guide, easy to manover with outboard motor; the perfect choice as bigger boats couldn't be moved across the shallower parts of river to reach the best spots. Flexibility is the key to succesful fishing, so everything is thinked with that in mind. |
Season
Usually November to February, depending on the amount of rains in the basin. End of summer floods trigger the spawning migration of huge quantity of forage fishes, and the food chain follows, with the Perch on top o it in often big schools. There is usually a resident population of fishes, but the big numbers just move out when water levels get too low. |
